About the Project

A transformative digital news project with Media24, leading the development and launch of WeCan24, an innovative digital school news network. This project empowered young aspiring journalists across South Africa by providing them with the tools, training, and platform to create their own online school newspapers, fostering the next generation of digital media professionals.

Situation

Media24, a leading South African media company, initiated the development of WeCan24, a digital school news network aimed at nurturing aspiring young digital journalists.

This school news network aimed to bridge the digital divide by equipping students and teachers with tools to create and publish online content. The initiative sought to enhance digital literacy, critical thinking, and writing skills while fostering a new generation of citizen journalists, preparing youth for the increasingly digital world of information and media.

Task

As the Digital Project Manager for WeCan24, I was responsible for managing and executing the design and development of this innovative digital news network.

My role involved overseeing all aspects of the project, from initial conception through to launch and ongoing engagement with schools and young people across South Africa.

Approach

As the Digital Project Manager for WeCan24, I developed a comprehensive strategy that included timelines, budgets, and resource planning. I managed the technical team, designed wireframes, and oversaw development sprints.

Conducting user research and creating content plans were key aspects of my role. I built relationships with schools nationwide, facilitated workshops for teachers and students, and managed the production of multimedia content to drive platform growth and engagement.

Results
